On the one hand, participants preferred women to have slightly longer eyelashes than men. Since ancient times, humans have practiced practices to improve eyelashes and have modified them as a tool to manipulate their attractiveness. While most consider that longer eyelashes are considered more attractive, no systematic research has proven this assumption. In this study, we systematically investigated the influence of eyelash length on perceived attractiveness.
Our results showed that the most attractive eyelash length is approximately one-third to one-quarter of the eye's width. A one-way ANOVA test was performed, which showed that the most attractive faces had eyelashes with proportions of 0.16 and 0.20. So maybe the link between eyelash length and facial attractiveness isn't solely due to biological factors. In addition, eyelashes can help highlight a person's sclera (the whites of the eyes) and limbal rings (the dark ring that surrounds the iris) of a person.
However, this differed between men and women, as women were considered more attractive with longer eyelashes, while men were considered less attractive.
